  Neighborhood Information

Board Meetings:  Board Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at Broadneck High School. All residents are encouraged to attend.  Meetings start at 7:00 pm and last approximately 2 hours.

Trash Pickup:  Trash pickup is on Wednesday and Saturday.  Please place your trash by the curb no earlier than 12 hours prior to pickup.   Please make sure your trash is secured tightly in a trashcan with a lid as opposed to trash bags so that animals and bad weather do not spread debris.  Please store your trashcans so they are not visible from the street, either in the rear or along the side of your home but not extending past the front corner of the house.

Architectural Improvements:  All modifications made to the exterior of your property such as sheds, fences, additions, paintings, driveway extensions, etc. must be submitted in writing to the Architectural Committee at least 30 days prior to your anticipated start date for approval.

Annual Assessments:  Annual Community Fees are paid on a calendar year basis. The Annual Assessment notice is mailed to you in December and payment is due within 30 days of the date appearing on the notice.  If you do not receive an Annual Assessment notice, this does not excuse you from paying your dues.  There is no requirement to notify the owner that assessments are due, it is only done as a personal courtesy. If you move but do not sell your home in the community, you are responsible for contacting the community association Treasurer and informing us of your forwarding address.  Failure to do this does not excuse you from paying your dues.

The Annual Assessment for 2006 is $38.60.  Annual assessments can be mailed to the Revell Downs address listed in the contact information section of the website.

Community Common Areas: The community has one tot lot, one baseball field, and a tennis and basketball court.  The areas are to be used by the residents and their guest only.   The Community Common areas are closed from dusk to dawn.  Violations are to be reported to the Anne Arundel County Police at 410-222-8050

Parking Restrictions:  Please do not park your cars on the lawn.  Driveways and curbsides serve that purpose.  However, prohibited in streets and driveways are boats, trailers, campers, RV's or commercial work vehicles.  If you own one of these vehicles, you may park behind or alongside not extending past the front corner of your home.

Pet Owners:  Both Revell Downs Association and Anne Arundel County ordinances forbid stray animals.  If you own a pet, please keep it contained in your yard or on a leash.  Also, please clean up after your pet if you walk it anywhere other than your property.  Be considerate of other's property.  If you experience a problem with stray animals, call 410-222-8900.

  Revell Downs History

If anyone has any information about the history of our community, please send it via email to president@revelldowns.com.

The Revell Downs development was built on the Labrot Race Track site on the Broadneck Peninsula.  A report from Mack's Memories reads as follows:

"...Between Persimmon Point Road and Bayhead Road was the Labrot Race Track, now Revell Downs development. The race track which was built around 1910, the creosoted lumber being brought up Whitehall Creek to the Barchet farm to be sledged by horse team across to the track, was active until after World War II. There are pictures of it at the Broadneck Grill. In 1953 the first Anne Arundel County Fair was held there."
Reported from  Mack's Memories from http://www.st-margarets.org/mack1.htm.

Further research lead to the first Anne Arundel County Fair in the fall of 1953.  An exerpt from "The history of the Anne Aurndel County Fair" reads as follows

"The first Fair was held at the old Labrot Race Track near Sandy Point through the courtesy of Mrs. Spence. There were beef and dairy cattle, chickens and pigeons of all sorts, farm produce, home goods food and clothes, pigs, sheep, a horse pulling contest, rides, games, food, a queen contest and educational exhibits. Crowds of people came - over 20,000! Someone even said all of Anne Arundel County! The race track was a dusty, red clay that day. A Sunday morning ride through town showed just who attended the four day Fair. It was a place for old friends to exchange warm pleasantries. The following year, 1953, the fair moved to the new Sandy Point State Park where it remained for 25 years. Several buildings existed already and more were added. Parking lots were established. It was a good place to be and the park people were very helpful."
Reported from "The history of the Anne Aurndel County Fair" from http://www.aacountyfair.org/history.html.

There is also reference to the neighborhood as being a horseracing track on an article bu Gene Miller entitled "From Here to the Beach".  This is a trip report of what you will discover if you drive from the I-495 Beltway and the Hwy 50 Interchange.  This was posted from the August 2004 of The Washingtonian, placed on the Washingtonian Online website.

The Holly Beach Farm, located next to Sandy Point State Park, was the homesite for the Labrot Family, who owned land between Cape St. Claire and Sandy Point.  The house is being restored by Bohl Architects in Annapolis.  Reported at http://users.bestweb.net/~jgiov/hollybeach/hollybeach.htm

History on the name "Revell":

The Anne Arundel Genealogical Society reports on a list of Towns in Anne Arundel County in 1903 the following : "Revell: post village in Anne Arundel County on the Baltimore and Annapolis Short Line "  Reported at http://www.aagensoc.org/aatowns.shtml.

From our January 2006 Newsletter, it was written that the streets in the neighborhood are names after winning horses.  The following horses were Kentucky Derby Winners:  Tim Tam (1958), Cary Back (1961), Majestic Prince (1969), Secretariat (1973), Cannonade (1974, Foolish Pleasure (1975).
